Hyderabad: Heavy flood inflows continue at the Singur project in Sangareddy district, prompting the Irrigation Department to lift seven spillway gates on Monday. Officials released large volumes of water downstream as upstream rainfall drove inflows into the reservoir.
Due to continuous rains in upper catchment areas, the project is receiving steady inflows of 79,814 cusecs. In response, authorities lifted gates 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 15. Of these, four gates were raised by two meters and the other three by 2.5 meters to regulate the pressure.
Assistant Engineer Stalin said they are releasing water at the same rate it enters the project, as the inflow continues to rise hourly. Spillway gates are discharging 74,049 cusecs, while two turbines at the hydroelectric station are releasing an additional 1,499 cusecs.
At present, the reservoir holds 19.919 TMC against its full capacity of 29.917 TMC. Hundreds of acres have submerged due to the discharge through the seven gates.
Officials remain stationed at the site to monitor fluctuations in water levels and manage outflows accordingly. They have urged people living in low-lying areas to stay alert and advised fishermen and shepherds to avoid riverbanks until conditions stabilize.
