Hyderabad: The Edupayala Vanadurga temple in Medak district was fully submerged on Friday as floodwaters from the swelling Manjeera river surged past the sanctum. Water flowed right up to the temple steps, forcing priests to shift the festival idol to the rajagopuram for devotees’ worship.
Police set up barricades to prevent visitors from entering the inundated temple premises. Officials said the upstream Singur reservoir had been releasing water after its level rose, intensifying the flood downstream. As a result, the temple complex has remained cut off by water for the past 15 days.
