Hyderabad: The death toll in the Sigachi Industries explosion at Pashamylaram industrial area climbed to 41 after another injured worker died during treatment at a private hospital in Patancheru. Officials identified the deceased as Jitender, who had been admitted with severe burns.
Rescue agencies said nine workers were still unaccounted for as search operations continued. The blast impact was so intense that the body parts of workers had fused with factory machinery, leaving distraught families waiting outside the unit for any trace of their relatives.
Even seven days after the tragedy, trade unions complained that there had been no progress in identifying several workers. Leaders attempting to visit the accident site were stopped by police, triggering fresh protests.
Out of nine workers undergoing treatment at Dhruva Hospital, three have died so far, while three others remain on ventilator support with burns exceeding 40 to 80 per cent. Bhim Rao, a labourer, died on Friday, while another worker, Munmun Choudhary, passed away on Saturday.
Officials confirmed Jitender’s death on Sunday, taking the official casualty figure to 41.
