BJP blocked BC Reservation Bill, alleges Congress leader Shyam Naik

Hyderabad: Congress leader and Asifabad constituency in-charge Shyam Naik accused the BJP of blocking the BC Reservation Bill that proposed a 42 per cent quota for Backward Classes. He made the charge on Saturday while supporting the BC bandh held by community leaders across the district.

Shyam Naik blames the BJP for stalling the BC Bill

Speaking to the media, Naik said the Congress government had fulfilled its promise to BCs. He added that the Assembly passed a resolution and sent the Bill to Parliament for approval. However, BJP leaders at the Centre refused to support it, he said.

Naik questioned why the BJP, which backed the Bill in the Assembly, opposed it in Parliament. He said this showed the party’s lack of commitment to social justice. According to him, the BJP’s stand made it clear that its leaders were against fair representation for BCs.

‘BJP used courts to block 42% BC quota’

Naik said that when the Congress government announced 42 per cent reservations for BCs in local body elections, BJP leaders tried to stop it through the courts. He described this as an attempt to deny political power to BC communities.

He urged the BJP to end what he called “political dramas” and support the BC Reservation Bill in Parliament. Naik said the Congress would continue to fight until BCs received their rightful share in representation and governance.
