Two arrested in Shahalibanda theft case, gold and silver ornaments worth ₹1.6 lakh recovered

Hyderabad: In a swift breakthrough, the Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone Team, in coordination with Shahalibanda Police, has arrested two men accused of house theft, recovering valuables worth approximately ₹1.6 lakh.

The suspects, identified as Abdul Wasi alias Waseem (41), a car driver from Bahadurpura, and Mohammed Abdul Waheed (42), a mobile technician from Bandlaguda, allegedly broke into a residence in Shahalibanda, stealing gold and silver ornaments from a locked almirah.

According to police, the duo, close friends from Hyderabad, turned to crime due to financial difficulties and indulgence in bad habits. Abdul Wasi, with a prior criminal record, targeted a relative’s house and conducted surveillance with Waheed before executing the theft using iron rods to force open the door and locker.

Recovered items include a gold necklace, two gold-coated silver bangles, a gold-coated silver ring, and two mobile phones. In total, 13.43 grams of gold and 37.64 grams of silver ornaments were seized. Additionally, police traced 128 grams of pledged gold ornaments to Muthoot Finance in Falaknuma.

The theft was initially reported by Mohammed Khaled of Shahalibanda on 19 May, leading to the registration of a case under Cr. No. 66/2025. Following a tip-off, the police apprehended the suspects and recovered the stolen property.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Inspector S. Raghavendra, with Sub-Inspectors M. Mahesh, K. Narsimulu, G. Anjaneyulu, N. Naveen, and their team from South Zone Task Force, in cooperation with Shahalibanda Police.
