Secunderabad deserves municipal corporation status, says Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy said on Saturday that residents strongly support Secunderabad being granted full municipal corporation status. He voiced support for ongoing campaigns advocating official recognition.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said Secunderabad holds deep civic and historical significance. He argued that the city deserves independent administrative recognition. “We stand with those fighting for Secunderabad municipal recognition,” he stated.

BRS protest triggers police crackdown in Secunderabad

At the same time, tensions escalated in Secunderabad on Saturday morning after police deployed large numbers of personnel across key areas. Officers detained several BRS leaders who attempted to protest in support of the demand.

Senior BRS leader and former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav led the campaign. Under the slogan Bachao Secunderabad, the party had planned a peaceful rally starting from the railway station.

According to BRS leaders, the state government is attempting to erase Secunderabad’s historical legacy through recent policy decisions. They accused the administration of deliberately sidelining the city’s civic identity. In response, many residents have joined calls to preserve Secunderabad’s distinct municipal status.

Due to the protests, police presence intensified throughout the day. The arrests and crowd control measures caused traffic disruptions and sparked chaotic scenes across the city.
