School uniform orders controversy: KTR targets Telangana government

Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao on Friday questioned the state government for cancelling school uniform stitching orders given to the Telangana State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (TESCO) and assigning them to private firms. KTR said the move weakened public institutions and hurt weavers.

KTR asked whether the state was running a “people’s government or a private limited company.” He also accused the administration of favouring private players over state-run bodies. He made these remarks on X.

KTR said the government withdrew a Rs.105 crore school uniform order from TESCO, which raised serious concerns. He then asked why the welfare department had not issued another Rs.200 crore order for clothes and blankets to TESCO.

KTR alleged that the government diverted contracts to private players to earn commissions. He called it a “Congress syndicate” driven by financial interests. He said the decision hurt handloom workers who relied on such orders.

Moreover, he said denying work to TESCO directly reduced income for weavers. KTR added that this step weakened the cooperative sector. He warned that such decisions could trigger public anger.

KTR also said handloom workers faced growing distress due to weak institutional support. He cautioned that voters would soon respond to what he described as anti-worker policies.
