Revenue push enforcement gaps addressed by Minister Ponnam

Hyderabad: Revenue push enforcement gaps came under focus as Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to increase revenue while ensuring that enforcement measures do not inconvenience citizens.

During a high-level review meeting held on Tuesday, officials reported that revenue rose from Rs.6,910.90 crore in 2024–25 to Rs.7,097.38 crore in 2025–26. However, they noted that concessions under the electric vehicle policy had an impact on collections.

The Minister said revenue push enforcement gaps must be addressed through strict border vigilance and improved monitoring. He also instructed officials to clear pending services quickly and ensure glitch-free functioning of the Vahan and Sarathi portals.

He further called for stronger enforcement against overloading and illegal sand transport. In addition, he emphasised the need to streamline vehicle registration processes at dealerships. Expansion of vehicle scrapping units across districts was also proposed to strengthen compliance mechanisms.

Revenue push enforcement gaps linked to safety measures

The Minister said revenue push enforcement gaps must also align with road safety priorities. He announced the “Arrive Alive” campaign to be conducted from April 13 to 18, focusing on accident prevention.

Officials were directed to intensify action against speeding, drunk driving, and helmet violations. Moreover, he stressed consistent enforcement to reduce road accidents while maintaining public convenience.

He also highlighted that the government had extended tax exemptions worth Rs.1,000 crore under the EV policy. Therefore, he urged department employees to act as “EV ambassadors” and promote electric vehicle adoption.

The meeting concluded with directions to balance enforcement efficiency with citizen-friendly service delivery, while sustaining revenue growth.
