CM Revanth Reddy directs fast-tracking of Musi River revival, Mir Alam Tank development

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to expedite the Musi River revival project, with a particular focus on the development of a bridge over Mir Alam Tank and the creation of a world-class tourism zone.

In a review meeting held on Friday at the Command Control Centre, the Chief Minister examined the progress of the project and reviewed the conceptual bridge designs presented through a PowerPoint by consultancy firms. Officials were instructed to finalise the Detailed Project Report (DPR), including surveys, feasibility studies, and design proposals, ahead of the tender process scheduled for June.

The Mir Alam Tank bridge is expected to span approximately 2.5 kilometres. Revanth Reddy stressed that it should not only be an architectural marvel but must also prioritise the safety of visitors and commuters. He also approved the development of three islands within the tank, instructing that they be beautified to attract tourists.

Inspired by Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay, the Chief Minister proposed the creation of features like a “Birds’ Paradise” and artificial waterfalls. The islands will be developed to include convention centres suitable for weddings, adventure and theme parks, an amphitheatre, and accommodation facilities such as resorts and hotels. Boating and other recreational amenities will also be part of the integrated tourism plan.

The Chief Minister ordered that the water in Mir Alam Tank be purified and that the designs account for seasonal variations in water availability and potential flooding. He called for hydrology and environmental studies to be conducted by reputed experts or institutions, and for the necessary permissions to be secured based on those reports.

Additionally, the project will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with detailed proposals to be drafted accordingly. Revanth Reddy also suggested integrating the island zone with the nearby zoo park. He instructed officials to consult zoo authorities to explore possibilities of upgrading the zoo in line with the larger tourism development plan.
The Chief Minister made it clear that the entire zone must be developed with a long-term vision and international standards to position Hyderabad as a major eco-tourism destination.
