Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed Congress MLAs and MLCs to ensure full budget session attendance and actively participate in debates in the Assembly and Legislative Council.
The Chief Minister issued the direction during a Congress Legislature Party meeting held in Hyderabad on Monday. He asked all legislators, including women members, to attend the proceedings without fail and contribute to discussions in the House.
Revanth Reddy stressed that government Whips and legislators must maintain strong coordination during debates. According to him, such coordination would help ensure smooth budget session attendance and effective participation by members.
The Chief Minister said the government was presenting its third budget during the ongoing session. He noted that the Governor’s address had outlined the government’s priorities and future plans. According to him, the address served as a roadmap for the government’s policy direction.
Revanth Reddy instructed legislators to speak strictly according to the party line while responding during debates. He said the roadmap prepared during the session would guide the party’s political agenda for the upcoming elections.
Budget session attendance stressed during CLP meeting
Revanth Reddy also advised legislators to focus discussions on future plans rather than repeatedly debating the previous government’s failures. According to him, the government must concentrate on fulfilling people’s aspirations.
He asked the government Whips to coordinate with members on issues and topics raised in the House. Therefore, discussions should remain focused and productive during the budget session.
The Chief Minister said legislators must ensure that Assembly proceedings continue efficiently. He warned against allowing debates to be diverted or valuable House time to be wasted.
Revanth Reddy also emphasised the importance of women legislators participating in debates. He said individual actions that damage institutional integrity could weaken the political system.
“Our survival in politics depends entirely on protecting and preserving the integrity of the system,” he said.
Budget session attendance linked to governance priorities
Revanth Reddy also referred to the functioning of the previous BRS government. He claimed the earlier administration did not allow the opposition to speak on several issues.
According to him, former CLP leaders Bhatti Vikramarka and Jana Reddy were denied opportunities to speak in the Assembly. He also recalled that he was suspended for the entire session and barred from entering the House during his tenure as an MLA.
The Chief Minister said the government would soon constitute all Assembly committees. In addition, he encouraged MLAs and MLCs to visit other states to study best policy practices.
He also asked legislators to focus on the drinking water crisis expected during summer. According to him, public representatives must address the issue in their constituencies.
Finally, the Chief Minister urged members to take the “99-Day Praja Palana – Pragati Pranalika” initiative to the grassroots level. He said the programme should reach people directly through field-level engagement by legislators.
