Red alert issued as heavy rains lash Telugu states

Hyderabad: The Meteorological Department issued fresh warnings of heavy rains for parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. Intense downpours continued for the third straight day across both states.

As a result, low-lying areas were inundated. Roads flooded, traffic slowed, and power lines were disrupted. Additionally, strong winds uprooted trees and caused local blackouts.

Red alert issued in Telangana amid heavy rains

In Telangana, a surface trough over the west-central Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay led to widespread heavy rainfall. Consequently, authorities declared a red alert in Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Medchal, Yadadri, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Bhupalpally, Mulugu and Suryapet districts.

Meanwhile, an orange alert was issued for Nizamabad, Nirmal, Kamareddy, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Suryapet and Medchal. The remaining districts are under a yellow alert. According to the IMD, the rains are likely to continue for another two days.

Coastal Andhra braces for heavy rains

In Andhra Pradesh, heavy rainfall is expected today in Alluri Sitharama Raju, Konaseema, Eluru, NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Bapatla, Palnadu and Prakasam. However, other districts may see only light to moderate showers. The Met Office urged residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
