RBI UDGAM fraud: CP Sajjanar warns public of cyber scam

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar warned the public against cyber scams carried out in the name of the RBI’s UDGAM portal for unclaimed bank deposits.

According to Sajjanar, cyber criminals changed their methods and began using the Reserve Bank of India’s name to cheat people. In particular, they targeted unclaimed deposits by claiming they would help recover money from old bank accounts.

The Commissioner said fraudsters sent messages and emails stating that large sums were pending in dormant accounts. However, they asked recipients to click links to withdraw the money. Once people clicked those links, their phones were hacked and bank accounts emptied.

. Moreover, he warned people not to click suspicious links received through WhatsApp or email.

In case of fraud, the Police Commissioner said victims must act without delay. First, they should call the cybercrime helpline 1930.

. Otherwise, any delay may result in permanent financial loss.
