CM Revanth Reddy orders CID probe into activist Rajalinga Murthy’s murder

HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has ordered a CID investigation into the murder of activist Rajalinga Murthy, who was brutally killed in Bhupalapally on Wednesday evening. Murthy had previously filed a legal challenge regarding the Medigadda Lakshmi Barrage subsidence, alleging government negligence.

Murthy’s legal case, filed in 2023, accused the then BRS-led government of responsibility for the structural issues in the Medigadda Barrage, part of the Kaleshwaram Project. Following the petition, the court had issued notices to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and former Minister T. Harish Rao.

On Wednesday night, unidentified assailants fatally attacked Murthy with knives near the Telangana Coal Mine Labor Union office. According to police reports, he was returning to Bhupalapally on his bike after attending a family function in Pakkirugadda when he was ambushed.

Murthy’s wife, Nagavelli Sarala, was elected as a councillor from Bhupalapally’s 15th ward in 2019 on a BRS ticket. However, she was expelled from the party a few months later.

Given Murthy’s legal battle against key political figures and contracting companies involved in the Medigadda Barrage, his murder has raised suspicions. Bhupalapally police have registered a case and intensified their investigation.

In light of the serious allegations and public concern, CM Revanth Reddy has directed the CID to conduct a thorough probe to uncover the truth behind Murthy’s murder.
