Hyderabad: Star shuttler PV Sindhu and Telangana Additional Director General of Police Mahesh Bhagwat have been appointed as members of the National Commission for Women Advisory Committee for 2025. The appointments were announced on Wednesday through an official statement by the Commission.
The Advisory Committee, chaired by Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, includes 21 members from diverse professional backgrounds. It is designed to provide strategic guidance on women’s welfare, safety, and empowerment initiatives at the national level.
Representation from Telangana Gains Attention
The inclusion of Sindhu and Bhagwat in the advisory panel of National Commission for Women reflects recognition of Telangana’s contribution to sports and law enforcement. Sindhu, India’s leading badminton icon and Olympic medalist, has long advocated for women in sports. Bhagwat, as a senior IPS officer, has played a key role in community policing and women’s safety programs in Telangana.
Other prominent figures inducted include V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, and Harshavardhan Agarwal, President of FICCI. The Commission underlined that the committee will work collectively to strengthen women-centric policies and advise on pressing issues of gender equality.
Officials noted that the 2025 committee represents an effort to balance perspectives across academia, industry, governance, and sports.
