Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar accused the BJP of sidelining backward communities and failing to deliver on its promises of social justice. He said the Congress government had taken concrete steps to uplift Dalits and marginalised groups, including implementation of the caste census and ministerial representation.
Speaking in Hyderabad on Saturday, Prabhakar criticised the BJP for removing BC leader Bandi Sanjay from the Telangana party president post, despite earlier promises of chief ministerial leadership for weaker sections. He called the appointment of Ramchandra Rao who opposed reservations as state president “anti-BC”.
He pointed to Congress’s cabinet composition, saying the party gave ministerial and legislative council seats to members of marginalised communities. “The BJP talks of justice but appoints leaders who oppose it. If Kishan Reddy is serious, he should resign and ensure posts go to leaders like Arvind, Laxman, Etela Rajender or R. Krishnaiah,” he said.
Prabhakar slammed the BJP for denying legislative party leadership to figures like Payal Shankar, calling it proof of the party’s neglect of the weaker sections. He said the proposal for 42% BC reservation was awaiting Presidential approval and demanded that the BJP support it instead of blocking social justice.
