Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy promises review of district reorganisation

Hyderabad: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the state government would correct the unscientific reorganisation of mandals, revenue divisions, and districts carried out by the previous regime.

Replying during Question Hour in the Assembly on Tuesday, the minister responded to queries raised by members Rammohan Reddy, Veereshwaram, and Palvai Harish. He said the earlier government restructured mandals and districts arbitrarily. According to him, authorities ignored public representations and local needs.

He said this flawed exercise created serious administrative problems. In several cases, he pointed out, four mandals from a single Assembly constituency ended up in four different districts. As a result, people faced avoidable difficulties in accessing government services.

He further alleged that the previous government created districts selectively. He said leaders favoured those who praised them while ignoring others. He also claimed districts were divided based on personal preferences, not logic.

Government to review district reorganisation through Cabinet, Assembly debate

Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the present government had identified the need for new mandals and revenue divisions across the state. Therefore, he said, the issue required a comprehensive review.

He said the Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, would hold detailed discussions on district reorganisation. He added that officials would submit a special report on the issue.

He assured the House that the government would place the report before the Assembly. He said members would debate the proposals thoroughly. Only after securing broad consensus, he said, would the government proceed with district reorganisation.

The minister said the process would aim to restore administrative balance. He added that the government would prioritise public convenience while redrawing boundaries.
