Hyderabad: Telangana housing sanction was formally sought from the Centre by Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, who urged approval of 3 lakh rural houses in the current financial year.
The Minister met Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in Hyderabad on Saturday and submitted a memorandum outlining the state’s housing requirements. During the meeting, he pressed for the immediate allocation of houses to rural beneficiaries.
Ponguleti alleged that the previous BRS government failed to secure even a single house from the Centre in ten years. He claimed the earlier regime neglected the welfare of the poor and did not pursue central housing support.
He said that, under the instructions of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, he had been repeatedly appealing to the Centre for the past two years. However, he added that the state had not received a positive response so far.
Demand for Telangana housing sanction rises to 3 lakh units
The Minister requested the Centre to sanction 3 lakh houses for rural areas in this financial year. In addition, he sought another 2 lakh houses in the next financial year to meet the pending demand.
Ponguleti stated that the state aimed to construct houses for all eligible poor families within the next three years. He noted that nearly four lakh Indiramma houses had already been sanctioned this year.
According to him, the housing programme would accelerate further if the Centre extended support. Therefore, he urged Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to consider the ground situation in Telangana and approve the requested allocation.
