The review covered Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Sangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts. Ponguleti held the meeting along with Ministers D Sridhar Babu, Mohammed Azharuddin and Ponnam Prabhakar.
He directed officials to ensure transparent beneficiary selection and resist political pressure. At the same time, he asked them to identify land in urban areas without affecting livelihoods of the poor.
Ponguleti orders action on housing misuse
The minister instructed officials to issue notices to beneficiaries not residing in allotted 2BHK houses. He said authorities must cancel allotments if there is no response by April 30 and reassign those units to eligible families.
He asked officials to review responses and take undertakings from beneficiaries confirming continued residence. Ponguleti directed teams to begin field inspections from May 1.
He stressed the need to provide basic amenities in all housing colonies. He asked officials to ensure electricity, drinking water and drainage facilities without delay.
The minister ordered installation of power meters for 22,000 houses on priority. He also directed officials to allocate completed units immediately instead of waiting for full project completion.
He suggested auctioning commercial spaces in housing colonies rather than leasing them. The proceeds, he said, should be deposited in joint accounts of societies and the government.
Senior officials, including Housing Secretary and MD V P Gautham and district collectors of the four districts, attended the meeting.
