Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V.C. Anand Sajjanar on Wednesday said that cases were registered against several television reporters for making defamatory allegations against a woman government officer and for publishing insulting news reports about the Chief Minister.
He confirmed that multiple journalists from prominent TV channels were taken into custody for questioning. Notably, the reporters made baseless accusations without providing any supporting evidence. Sajjanar described these actions, especially those targeting women officers, as “a form of cruelty.”
Sajjanar warns of legal consequences for non-cooperation
The Commissioner emphasised that women continue to advance in every professional field. Therefore, he said, unfair criticism against them not only causes harm to the individuals but also puts their families under strain. He condemned such remarks, adding that speaking about these issues evokes a sense of emotional pain.
Drawing on a cultural analogy, he stated, “A mother is the origin of creation. To criticise a mother is to criticise creation itself.”
Sajjanar further warned that situations can shift rapidly during emergencies. He made it clear that all police actions were carried out strictly according to legal procedures. “We did not break any doors. We are proceeding according to the law,” he clarified.
He also alleged that some individuals involved were trying to flee the country. “People are escaping at midnight under the name of Bangkok,” he said.
Urging cooperation, Sajjanar called on all media personnel to assist with the investigation. “Cooperate with the investigation,” he warned. “If you don’t, we will take you into custody.”
