Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the redeveloped Begumpet Railway Station on 22 May. The upgraded station has been transformed into a modern transit hub under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme at a cost of ₹26.55 crore.
On the same day, revamped stations at Karimnagar and Warangal will also be inaugurated.
Begumpet has been reimagined to reflect Telangana’s rich cultural identity, with passenger-centric features including escalators, lifts, spacious waiting halls, modern restrooms, and disabled-friendly amenities. According to South Central Railway officials, the station frontage has been beautified with landscaping and new lighting, with improved signage to assist travellers.
One standout feature: the entire station is operated by an all-women staff—from station master and ticket clerks to RPF constables and booking staff, a practice in place for six years now. A dedicated surveillance system ensures enhanced safety for female passengers.
Facilities include two lifts, four escalators, platform shelters, and better navigation aids. The focus, officials said, is not just on infrastructure, but on commuter comfort and security.
Begumpet serves nearly 15,000 passengers daily, making it one of the busiest suburban stations after Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda.
