Hyderabad: Congress leader Pawan Khera received bail relief from the Telangana High Court, which granted him interim protection from arrest for one week in a defamation case.
The case relates to allegations made by the Congress leader against Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. She filed a complaint alleging that Khera made defamatory statements against her.
Khera approached the High Court seeking protection from arrest and requested interim bail. The court delivered its order on Friday and granted him anticipatory bail for a week.

The court directed Khera to approach the concerned court for regular bail within the stipulated period. It granted interim relief to enable him to seek further legal remedy.
Police had registered a case against him under multiple sections, including defamation, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. The complaint alleged that he made claims about multiple passports and undisclosed foreign assets.
Earlier, police attempted to reach him at his residence in Delhi but did not find him there. Meanwhile, officials placed security arrangements at his residence in Hyderabad anticipating his arrival.
The High Court’s order grants him temporary protection from arrest for one week.
