DELHI: AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi tore a copy of the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, declaring it an insult to Muslims and a violation of their constitutional rights.
Dramatically opposing the Bill during a parliamentary debate, Owaisi held up a copy of the proposed legislation and tore it on the floor of the House, saying, “I tear this Waqf Amendment Bill in the spirit of Gandhi.” He said the Bill was intended to humiliate Muslims and showed clear bias.
The Hyderabad MP stated that the Bill contradicted Articles 25 and 26 of the Constitution, which protect the freedom of religion and the right to manage religious affairs. He asserted that the legislation would lead to injustice against the Muslim community.
Owaisi’s strong objection underscored his party’s firm stance against what it views as discriminatory policies. He insisted that the Waqf Amendment Bill was not only legally flawed but also politically motivated to target a particular community.
