No issue with Congress-CPI alliance in Kothagudem, says KTR

Hyderabad: Congress-CPI alliance Kothagudem drew no objection from BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday, even as he accused the Congress of creating unrest in municipalities where BRS holds a majority.

Speaking at the Sant Sevalal Jayanti celebrations at Telangana Bhavan in the city, KTR said he had no problem if the ruling Congress and CPI, which are already allies, reached an agreement in Kothagudem Municipal Corporation. He stated that BRS wanted to work with CPI in the interest of Singareni company workers.

KTR alleged that Congress and BJP were looting the Singareni company. However, he said he did not know under what circumstances the CPI agreed to the alliance or what pressures it faced.

Congress-CPI alliance Kothagudem to share Mayor post

Clarity emerged on the Mayor’s post in the Kothagudem Municipal Corporation, with Congress and CPI deciding to share power. According to the arrangement, CPI will hold the Mayor’s post for the first two-and-a-half years, after which Congress will assume the position for the remaining term. The Deputy Mayor post will also be shared on a similar basis.

In the corporation elections, the Congress alliance secured 23 divisions, including 22 by Congress and one by CPM. CPI won 22 divisions, while BRS secured 8 seats, BJP won 1, and Independents claimed 6 divisions. The election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor is scheduled for the 16th of this month.

KTR further alleged that Congress leaders were attempting to destabilise municipalities where BRS had won a majority. He claimed that BRS corporators and councillors were being lured and kidnapped. He also accused Congress leaders of sending police and goons to threaten BRS representatives.

Despite the allegations, KTR asserted that BRS corporators and councillors were fearless. He expressed confidence that the party would win more municipalities in the state.
