Nitin Nabin to take charge as BJP national president after unopposed election

Hyderabad: BJP leader Nitin Nabin is set to take charge as the new National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday. This comes after his unopposed election to the top post. The party confirmed his selection after no other nominations were filed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several senior BJP leaders are scheduled to attend the swearing-in ceremony. The event will also bring together Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states. Additionally, national office bearers, state unit presidents, and members of the national executive will be present.

Nitin Nabin, the BJP president, was elected with 37 valid nominations

On Monday, the BJP declared Nabin as the sole candidate after the nomination and scrutiny process concluded. National Returning Officer K. Laxman announced that all 37 sets of nomination papers submitted between 2 and 4 p.m. were found valid. Moreover, no withdrawals were recorded.

Nabin, 45, has been serving as the party’s National Working President since December 14, 2025. His candidacy gained strong backing from top leadership, including Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, and outgoing president J.P. Nadda.

The election process was triggered after more than 30 out of the BJP’s 36 state units elected their presidents. This met the party’s constitutional requirement for central leadership elections.

The process followed the BJP rules for the national leadership election

The BJP Constitution mandates that a presidential candidate must be nominated by at least 20 members of the electoral college from a state. Additionally, the candidate must have completed a minimum of 15 years as a party member.

With no challengers and complete organisational backing, Nabin will formally assume charge after the electoral college ratifies the result. The college includes members of both the national and state councils.

Nabin’s elevation is being seen as a bid to combine generational change with internal stability in the BJP’s central leadership.
