Hyderabad: The Telangana government will construct a new RTC bus station near Aram Ghar to address surging traffic and population pressure in Hyderabad, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced.
The minister said detailed plans are being drawn up for a state-of-the-art facility equipped with modern amenities, leveraging available government land in the Aram Ghar area. Hyderabad currently has two major bus terminals Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) and Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) which, Prabhakar noted, were built to meet past requirements and are now inadequate.
He pointed to the strategic location of Aram Ghar, close to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and accessible to commuters from Mahbubnagar district, as a key reason for selecting the site. “The proposed RTC bus station will not only support current needs but also future demand from areas like the upcoming ‘Future City’,” he said.
Prabhakar confirmed that a request has been made to the state government to allocate land for both a new depot and a dedicated station to serve Future City. He noted the growing difficulty of acquiring land for transport infrastructure in the city due to rapid urban expansion.
He added that demand for RTC bus services has surged significantly following the rollout of the government’s free travel scheme for women. To accommodate this increase and improve commuter experience, the state plans to build multiple modern, high-capacity bus stations across Hyderabad in the coming months.
