Hyderabad: Coal production across Singareni Collieries in Telangana came to a complete halt on Tuesday following a nationwide strike called by major trade unions.
The bandh had a pronounced impact in the Ramagundam region, particularly at Mandamarri area, where all mining operations were suspended. Workers stayed off duty in response to the protest led by unions including AITUC, INTUC, CITU, TBJKS, and Viplava Mazdoor Union.
With mining sites deserted, authorities deployed police to prevent any law-and-order disruption. Union leaders accused the central government of adopting anti-labour and anti-people policies, and demanded their immediate rollback.
Participation in the strike was entirely voluntary, with coal workers reportedly joining without coercion, expressing solidarity with the broader labour movement.
Preliminary estimates suggest the one-day halt resulted in a production loss of approximately ₹76 crore for the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL)
