HYDERABAD: A disturbing incident has come to light from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, where a Muslim woman was allegedly assaulted and her hijab forcibly removed by a group of Muslim men for travelling on a bike with a Hindu man. The attackers also beat the man and hurled abusive remarks at the woman.
The incident took place in the Bhavan area. Sachin, a Hindu man from Bhavan, and Farheen, a 20-year-old Muslim woman from Khalapar, both work at a finance bank. On 12 April, the two were returning after collecting loan instalments when they were stopped by several men in a narrow street.
According to reports, the group confronted them and forcibly stripped Farheen of her hijab. They physically assaulted her, pulling her hair and slapping her, and hurled obscene insults at her for travelling with a Hindu man. Sachin was also attacked during the incident. The altercation was recorded on video and has since gone viral on social media.
Police arrived at the scene upon learning of the attack and rescued both Farheen and Sachin, taking them safely to the police station. Based on Farheen’s complaint, a case was registered and six individuals were arrested in connection with the assault.
A video showing the accused limping as they were escorted to the police station has also surfaced online. However, there are widespread suspicions that the accused were faking their injuries.
The incident has sparked outrage, raising concerns over religious intolerance and the safety of individuals in interfaith associations.
