Modi criticises opposition conduct as Winter Session opens

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the opposition had turned Parliament into a political rehearsal space or a platform to air frustration after defeat. He urged all parties to focus on clear debate as the Winter Session began.

He spoke to reporters outside Parliament and said recent sittings had moved toward political theatre. The Prime Minister added that the House must work only for results. He noted that the opposition had shown this pattern “for some time now.”

Mr. Modi referred to the opposition’s losses in the Bihar elections. He said the session should not mirror anger after defeat or display arrogance after victory. He called the high turnout in Bihar a strong marker of democratic strength. The Prime Minister said the opposition must meet its responsibility in Parliament and rise above the depression that followed its electoral setback.

The Winter Session opened on Monday and will run for 15 sittings.
