MLC Sravan demands clear organic farming policy in Telangana

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan on Friday urged the Telangana government to announce a clear and comprehensive organic farming policy, warning that continued neglect of soil health could result in long-term damage to the agricultural ecosystem.

Speaking in the Legislative Council, Sravan said that although land is revered as a mother, unsustainable cultivation practices are steadily polluting it. He stressed that several Indian states are advancing structured organic farming models, and Telangana must not fall behind.

Organic farming policy Telangana needed to protect soil health, says Sravan

Sravan argued that achieving net-zero environmental targets would be impossible without institutional support for organic farming. He called for support to farmer collectives, seed distribution systems, and the establishment of clear government guidelines.

Praising Telangana’s rise in paddy production under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, Sravan credited farmers for their contribution but noted that a focused push toward organic practices is now essential. He emphasised the importance of organic seed supply and sought details on planned government initiatives.

He also questioned the government’s efforts to strengthen agricultural extension services and create awareness among farmers. Therefore, he urged the government to actively use Rythu Vedikas in every village to conduct training sessions and raise awareness about sustainable agriculture.

Sravan demanded that the state government present a clear action plan on organic farming on the floor of the Council.
