Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Thursday defended the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, calling it the lifeline of Telangana and rejecting recent criticism as false and politically driven.
In a social media post, Kavitha referred to a newspaper article and said that since the project’s inception, a section of people had been consistently spreading misinformation about it. She said that while a neighbouring state was exploiting water resources, some within Telangana were wrongly targeting the state’s own flagship irrigation project.
She said Kaleshwaram must be fully utilised to draw maximum water from the Godavari river and reiterated that the project remains essential to Telangana’s long-term water security.

Reacting sharply to remarks made in a July 2 opinion piece by Prof. Aldas Janaiah, Vice Chancellor of Jayashankar Agricultural University, Kavitha accused him of spreading falsehoods about the project. She also criticised the university, saying it had turned into a “political rehabilitation centre.”
Kavitha posted a clipping of the article and stated, “Kaleshwaram is Telangana’s Srirama Raksha. This is my reply to the campaign of lies being run against it.”
