HYDERABAD: With Hyderabad gearing up to host the prestigious 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant, international contestants have begun arriving in the city ahead of the grand finale scheduled for 31 May at the Gachibowli Stadium. Among the early arrivals is Miss World Portugal 2024, Maria Amélia Baptista, who reached Hyderabad on Monday and was spotted visiting Singhania’s in Banjara Hills.
Baptista, who secured the third runner-up position in Miss Universe 2024, expressed her excitement about being in India for the first time. She said she was looking forward to exploring Telangana’s tourist destinations during her stay.
Speaking to the media, Baptista emphasised her commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer through the Miss World platform. She said she aimed to lead fundraising efforts to support underprivileged students and contribute to breast cancer prevention initiatives.
Calling her selection for Miss World a deeply fulfilling experience, Baptista stated that she was eager to use the stage to shed light on the growing global burden of breast cancer and the importance of early detection. She added that she hoped to inspire young women around the world to become voices for positive change.
The Telangana government is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations to host the pageant in a grand and memorable fashion. Authorities expect a large international turnout and see the event as an opportunity to showcase the state’s culture and hospitality to a global audience.
