Hyderabad: An anti-drugs rally took place at Jalavihar on Necklace Road on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Telangana ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Adluri Laxman Kumar were present at the event, along with Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau Director General Sandeep Shandilya, Rachakonda CP Sudheer Babu and actor Nikhil, all rallying behind the cause to raise awareness and promote a drug-free society.
As part of the campaign, a short film opposing drug abuse was launched by the ministers along with senior officials from Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TG NAB). Posters promoting drug prevention were also unveiled.
Speaking at the event, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Telangana government had resolved to take stronger steps to protect future generations. He warned of strict enforcement in narcotics cases and urged public cooperation. He pointed out that many parents are occupied with jobs and unable to track their children’s activities, which he said could lead to vulnerability to substance abuse.
The minister called on citizens to alert police or authorities if they become aware of drug use. He also referred to a recent operation in which Telangana police dismantled a drug supply chain in Goa. He said those who peddle drugs must be ostracised from society.
Minister Ponnam said the government’s message is clear: drugs should have no presence in Telangana.
Government Whip Birla Ilaiyya, GHMC Mayor Gadwala Vijaya Lakshmi, Corporation Chairman Lu Mettu Saikumar, Veeraiah, Gyaneshwar Mudiraj, Anitha Ramachandran IAS, Shailaja IAS and others participated in the event.
