Hyderabad: Former Hyderabad DCC president and Lok Sabha constituency in-charge Mohammed Waliullah Sameer on Saturday accused the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) of deliberately sabotaging the Congress party’s prospects in the Telangana municipal polls.
Sameer alleged that MIM, while presenting itself as a defender of minority rights, was in fact enabling the BJP by fragmenting secular votes. He warned voters to remain vigilant about the party’s political tactics and long-term consequences.
MIM sabotaging Congress municipal polls effort through vote split, says Sameer
Sameer pointed to multiple electoral contests across India, including Maharashtra, where MIM’s entry had resulted in vote splits that weakened Congress candidates and indirectly benefited the BJP. He claimed a similar pattern was now visible in Telangana as MIM attempted to expand its base in the ongoing civic elections by targeting traditional Congress strongholds.
He noted that TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Reddy had rightly affirmed Congress’s stance of maintaining equal distance from both the BJP and the MIM. “While the BJP openly pursues divisive politics, MIM sustains it from the other end, creating the same polarised atmosphere,” he said.
The Congress leader urged secular-minded and minority voters to focus on political outcomes instead of campaign rhetoric. He said the success of inclusive and democratic governance depended on unity among secular parties rather than experiments that weaken the opposition.
Reiterating Congress’s commitment to constitutional values and minority empowerment, Sameer called on voters to reject divisive electoral strategies and defend secularism through united voting behaviour.
