Hyderabad: Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday emphasised the role of meditation in achieving inner peace, emotional well-being, and social harmony. He was addressing a large gathering at the World Meditation Day celebrations held at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Rangareddy district.
In his speech, Radhakrishnan described meditation as a universal practice that cuts across religious, cultural, and national boundaries. He said it offers a path to mental clarity, emotional stability, and inner transformation in today’s fast-paced world.
Highlighting India’s global contribution, he recalled the country’s co-sponsorship of the United Nations General Assembly resolution that declared December 21 as World Meditation Day. He said the global recognition reflects meditation’s growing relevance as a tool for mental well-being and spiritual growth.
The Vice-President praised Heartfulness guide Daaji Kamlesh D. Patel for spreading meditation practices worldwide. He also lauded Kanha Shanti Vanam for promoting holistic well-being and environmental responsibility.
Meditation seen as key to a compassionate and resilient society
Radhakrishnan underlined meditation’s deep roots in India’s civilisational heritage. Quoting texts like the Bhagavad Gita and Thirumantiram, he said sages had long viewed meditation as a science of the mind and spirit.
He stressed that real development should include spiritual and emotional well-being along with economic progress. He linked this to the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
Referring to the government’s Mission LiFE initiative, he said meditation fosters mindfulness, responsibility, and a harmonious relationship with nature—vital traits for sustainable living.
He called on citizens to include meditation in their daily lives and urged families and communities to inspire the next generation to embrace inner balance and peaceful living.
Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Minister D. Sridhar Babu, and other dignitaries attended the event, which drew thousands of participants.
Later in the day, the Vice-President departed for Delhi from Shamshabad airport. Governor Dev Varma, Minister Sridhar Babu, Additional Collector Chandrareddy, and Additional DGP Mahesh Bhagwat were among those who gave him a formal farewell.
