Hyderabad: The Communist Party of India (Maoist) has extended its unilateral ceasefire in Telangana for another six months, citing continued public support for peace and a positive response from the state government.
The extension was announced through a letter released by the CPI (Maoist) Telangana State Committee, which recalled that the initial ceasefire was declared in May this year. The party said it was responding to widespread calls for peace from various sections of Telangana society, including political parties, civil organizations, and social groups.

“We are continuing the ceasefire for another six months,” the statement read. It said April through June saw significant peace efforts across the state, supported by constructive engagement from the Telangana government. The Maoist party claimed it had implemented planned measures during the previous ceasefire period to sustain the peaceful atmosphere and was now extending the truce in accordance with public sentiment.

While reaffirming its commitment to peace, the Maoist party accused the BJP-led Central government of attempting to disrupt the situation in Telangana. Party spokesperson Jagan urged political parties, student groups, intellectuals, and democratic forces to oppose the alleged central interference.
The party called on the Telangana government to maintain its cooperative stance, adding that preserving peace in the region reflects the will of the people.
