Hyderabad: A shocking incident unfolded at Katedan under Mailardevpally police limits on Friday night when a man, allegedly in an inebriated state, stabbed his neighbour after mistakenly believing her to be his wife.
According to the police, Saleem and his wife Munni, migrants from Nanded in Maharashtra, had moved to Hyderabad three years ago. Tensions had been simmering between the couple in recent days, leading to frequent arguments.
On Friday night, Saleem reportedly returned home drunk and, in a confused state, wandered into the neighbouring house where Abeda, 25, lived. Mistaking her for his wife, Saleem allegedly attacked her with a knife as she slept.
Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to her aid and shifted her to a nearby hospital. Doctors described her condition as critical.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused, who initially fled the scene, was reportedly apprehended and taken into custody.
