Hyderabad: Hyderabad police arrested a man on Sunday in the Neredmet temple trespass case for unlawfully entering the Katta Maisamma temple at Safilguda. Officials said he also committed indecent acts in front of the idol, triggering a complaint under religious insult laws.
The accused was identified as Altaf, 26, son of Alla Bakash, and a resident of Hugeri in Bidar, Karnataka. The incident took place on the night of January 10, 2026. Neredmet Police arrested him the next day and produced him before a magistrate, who sent him to judicial remand.
Police registered a case under CR No. 41/2026 with charges under Sections 333, 196(2), 298, and 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities are checking his background and past record as part of the investigation.
Police appeal for calm and warn against social media rumours
Officials urged the public not to spread rumours about the Neredmet temple trespass incident. Sharing false information, especially on social media, could create panic or disturb public peace, they warned.
Instead, citizens should rely on official updates from the police. Authorities said they would take legal action strictly under the law. Moreover, they asked the public to cooperate and help maintain communal harmony during the ongoing investigation.
