Hyderabad: Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate recovered 1,039 stolen and lost mobile phones valued at ₹2.08 crore over the past six months, officials announced on Thursday. The recoveries were made using the Central Equipment Identity Registry (CEIR) portal.
On the instructions of Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty, special teams from CCS LB Nagar and Malkajgiri, with support from the IT Cell, tracked and retrieved the mobile devices. Of the total, 739 were traced by LB Nagar teams and 300 by Malkajgiri units.
Public relief as stolen mobiles returned to owners
With this operation, the total number of mobiles recovered by Malkajgiri Police in 2025 has risen to 4,733. On January 8, police formally handed over the recovered phones to their rightful owners during a public event.
Commissioner Mohanty interacted with beneficiaries and advised citizens to secure their data and report thefts promptly. Several owners expressed gratitude, praising the swift action and efficiency of the police teams.
The recovery effort was led by DCP Crimes K. Guna Sekhar, along with Additional DCP Ch. Rameshwar and ACP Karuna Sagar. The teams included Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, Assistant Sub-Inspectors, Head Constables, and Constables.
