Mahajana Sena slams Centre and Telangana government over BC reservations

Hyderabad: Mahajana Sena state president Teegala Pradeep Goud blamed both the Centre and the Telangana government for the confusion over 42% BC reservations. He said their failure caused the current situation. Speaking at a press meet at Basheerbagh Press Club on Thursday, he appeared with BC JAC vice-chairman VGR Naragoni. He also declared full support for the BC JAC bandh on October 18.

He alleged that the education and corporate sectors in Telangana remained under the control of the upper castes. Moreover, he accused vested interests of plotting to disrupt the bandh. According to him, the Congress government tried to present itself as a champion of social justice through the 42% reservation move. However, the administration failed to follow due legal procedure, exposing its weaknesses.

Pradeep Goud said the government issued an ordinance to grant 42% BC reservations but could not protect it. Therefore, its efforts appeared meaningless. He questioned the purpose of conducting a caste survey when the government could not even safeguard BC rights. Furthermore, he criticised the state for ignoring essential steps before exceeding the 50% reservation cap.

He said Article 243A allows higher reservations if accurate population data is supported by a special law. He added that a proper socio-economic study on BC education and employment could justify the increase. In addition, he said the government should have prepared legal and technical studies based on Supreme Court rulings and other state models.

He also faulted the state for announcing the reservation ordinance based only on numbers, without proper legal or technical analysis. Besides, he accused the BJP-led Centre of negligence toward BC reservation issues.

Party leaders Shanmukha Rao, Nedunoori Sampath Kumar, Bhagamma, Prashanth, and Arun attended the press meet.
