Hyderabad: On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and top political leaders paid solemn tribute to the fallen heroes of the 1999 Kargil War, honouring their bravery as an enduring symbol of the Armed Forces’ courage.
President Murmu, in a message posted on X, said the day stood as a symbol of “extraordinary valour, courage, and unwavering determination,” adding that the fallen soldiers’ dedication would continue to inspire citizens.
Prime Minister Modi, also posting on X, described the occasion as a reminder of the “unparalleled courage and valour” of the soldiers who gave their lives to uphold the nation’s pride, stating their sacrifice would inspire generations.
On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Union Home Minister Amit Shah called July 26 an “unforgettable day of pride,” marking it as a pivotal moment that showcased India’s unwavering military resolve.
BJP Chief J.P. Nadda echoed similar sentiments, stating that the victory had reclaimed India’s pride. “Our brave soldiers sacrificed their lives to hoist the Tricolour again in Kargil,” he said, adding the nation remained indebted to them.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the soldiers’ actions in Kargil as a display of “extraordinary courage, grit and determination” in the harshest terrain. Their sacrifice, he said, remained a timeless reminder of the military’s resolve.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, saluting their “unflinching courage and valour.” He extended his greetings to armed forces personnel, ex-servicemen, and their families on the occasion.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India’s victory in the Kargil conflict, when Indian troops successfully ousted Pakistani forces from occupied positions along the mountain peaks of Ladakh’s Kargil district. Functions take place across the country, including official ceremonies in the national capital.
