KTR urges Centre to address LPG cylinder shortage

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi Working President K. T. Rama Rao urged the Union government to intervene in the LPG supply disruption and restore cylinder availability for businesses and households.

In a letter to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, KTR said the shortage of commercial and domestic LPG cylinders had begun affecting several sectors.

He stated that hotels, eateries, PG hostels and small food businesses were facing serious operational difficulties due to the disruption. Consequently, many establishments risked shutting down if the supply situation did not improve quickly.

KTR warned that such closures could affect lakhs of workers and students who depend on these services for daily needs.

KTR proposes measures to stabilise LPG cylinder supply

In the letter, KTR suggested introducing a tiered LPG allocation system during supply shortages. Under the proposal, small vendors and vulnerable businesses would receive priority access to LPG cylinders.

He also proposed creating a real-time public dashboard that would display LPG cylinder availability across districts. According to him, this step would improve transparency and help monitor distribution.

KTR further asked the Union government to consider a temporary freeze on commercial LPG cylinder prices. He said such a measure would ease the financial burden on small businesses already struggling with supply disruptions.

The BRS leader also sought strict enforcement against black marketing of LPG cylinders. He alleged that some domestic cylinders were being diverted illegally for commercial use and sold at higher prices.

In addition, KTR requested the Centre to bring PG hostels in IT corridor areas under a special protection category. He said these hostels house large numbers of students and working professionals who depend on uninterrupted cooking gas supply.

He also asked the government to classify gas-based crematoriums as essential services. According to him, uninterrupted LPG supply was necessary to ensure their functioning.

Describing the shortage as a serious crisis, KTR urged the Union government to take coordinated steps to restore LPG supply and protect essential services.
