Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday accused the Congress government of creating a fertiliser crisis in Telangana and demanded that the Assembly sit for at least 15 days to debate farmer issues.
BRS MLAs staged a protest at Gun Park in Hyderabad, displaying empty urea bags near the Martyrs’ Memorial to highlight the shortage.
KTR demands Assembly debate on farmers’ distress
Addressing the media, KTR said his party was ready to respond on any subject raised in the Assembly, from agriculture to irrigation projects like Kaleshwaram. He alleged that the government was attempting to run the House to suit its interests instead of allowing discussion on critical problems.
He questioned why farmers now had to stand in lines with Aadhaar cards and footwear tokens to obtain fertilisers, a situation that he claimed never arose during the BRS’s 10-year rule. Even during festivals and heavy rains, farmers were being forced to wait for supplies, he said.
KTR demanded a full debate on crop losses, farmer suicides, and the hardships caused by recent rains. He said over 600 farmers had taken their lives and more than 75 lakh cultivators were in distress.
BRS ready to face debate on all issues, says KTR
The BRS leader challenged the government to allow discussions on failures in implementing its six guarantees and 420 election promises. He also cited pending fee reimbursement dues that were troubling students.
KTR said the Assembly should serve as a platform to address public suffering. He reiterated that BRS was prepared to answer questions on Kaleshwaram, agriculture, and even the PC Ghosh Commission, which he termed a “PCC Ghosh Commission” engineered by the Congress.
