KTR accuses Revanth of ₹15000 crore metro debt burden

Hyderabad: K. T. Rama Rao accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of imposing a metro debt burden of ₹15,000 crore on the people through the Hyderabad Metro Rail project takeover.

Speaking on Sunday, KTR alleged that the Congress government was forcing the state to assume liabilities owed by a private entity, Larsen & Toubro. He claimed the Chief Minister presented misleading figures in the Assembly regarding the project.

BRS legislators staged protests demanding a House Committee probe into alleged illegal mining activities linked to Raghava Constructions. Party MLAs and MLCs gathered at Gun Park and marched to the Assembly. KTR and T. Harish Rao joined the demonstration.

KTR said the previous YSR government had only leased 280 acres of land for the Metro project. He stressed that the land was not sold and remained government property. He criticised the Chief Minister for claiming that the land had been purchased from the private operator.

Metro debt burden sparks land and policy dispute

KTR alleged that vested interests were attempting to take control of the 280 acres linked to the Metro project. He questioned why the Centre would object if the project remained under private management. He also pointed out that the Centre had funded the project earlier without raising concerns.

He accused the Chief Minister of making inconsistent and baseless claims about the project structure. According to him, the government’s decision on the Metro takeover was flawed and financially risky.

KTR said the metro debt burden would have long-term consequences for Telangana’s finances. He urged the government to review its decision and ensure transparency in handling public assets.

The controversy adds to ongoing tensions between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS over major infrastructure and financial decisions.
