Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) cited NCRB data to argue that farmer suicides fell sharply in Telangana during ten years of KCR’s rule. He said KCR’s welfare schemes brought a golden era for farmers.
Responding on his official X account, KTR said central government figures confirmed the impact of farmer-friendly programmes launched between 2014 and 2023. He noted that the NCRB report proved KCR’s policies reduced distress deaths in the state.
KTR warns of reversal under Congress rule
KTR pointed out that Telangana recorded 1,347 farmer suicides in 2014, while the number fell to 56 in 2023. He said this reflected a 96 percent decline. He added that Telangana’s share in farmer suicides across India dropped from 10.9 percent in 2014 to 0.51 percent in 2023.
However, KTR alleged that farmer deaths rose again under Congress. He claimed more than 700 suicides were reported in just two years of its rule. He said this reversal showed how Congress failed to protect farmers’ lives.
