KTR described the decision as a direct attack on democracy.

He said granting relief to a leader who contested as an MP candidate on a Congress party ticket insulted the public mandate.

MLA defection case sparks political row

The BRS leader said the decision marked a dark day in the history of democracy.

He alleged that the ruling party was misusing constitutional institutions for political convenience.

KTR questioned how democratic values could survive if elected representatives switched parties for personal benefits.

He said the Speaker’s approval of such actions weakened public trust in democratic institutions.

KTR further said that decisions encouraging defections damage the credibility of the political system.

He warned that such developments undermine the faith of voters who elect representatives through the democratic process.
