KTR condemns arrests of auto drivers, seeks immediate release

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K. T. Rama Rao strongly condemned the arrests of auto drivers across Telangana, alleging that the Congress government carried out illegal detentions to suppress their demands. He said the issue of unfulfilled assurances to auto drivers would be raised in the Assembly.

KTR criticised the police action against leaders of the Auto Drivers JAC and thousands of auto drivers who gave a call for an Assembly siege. He alleged that the government detained them illegally across the state instead of addressing their demands.

According to KTR, the Congress government had been arresting auto drivers and union leaders since the previous day. He described the detention of thousands of auto drivers in multiple police stations as a cruel act. He said the government resorted to arrests and restrictions when questioned about its failure to fulfil election promises.

KTR seeks Assembly assurance on auto drivers’ demands

KTR demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all arrested auto union leaders and auto drivers. He also urged the government to make a clear statement in the Assembly on the implementation of promises made to auto drivers, as demanded by them.

He warned that failure to act would worsen the crisis faced by auto drivers. KTR said the government must immediately implement the assurances to prevent further distress and suicides among auto drivers.
