Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority on Saturday issued a flood alert as the Krishna and Godavari rivers began flowing in spate due to heavy rains in upper catchment areas.
Flood warnings near Prakasam and Dhavaleswaram barrages
Officials said the Krishna river is nearing the first warning level at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada. Meanwhile, the first-level flood warning has already been issued at Dhavaleswaram Barrage on the Godavari river near Rajahmundry.
Authorities urged residents living near riverbanks to remain alert as water levels continue to rise in both river systems.
Rain impact to subside as depression weakens
The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is weakening, leading to expectations of reduced rainfall impact over Andhra Pradesh by Sunday. However, scattered light to moderate showers may occur in North Andhra and parts of the Krishna and Guntur districts.
