Woman who drove car on railway tracks in Kondakal found mentally unfit, shifted to Erragadda

Hyderabad: The woman who drove a car on active railway tracks near Kondakal in Ranga Reddy district has been declared mentally unfit following medical examination and shifted to Erragadda Mental Hospital for treatment.

Identified as Vomika Soni, the woman drove her vehicle for nearly 7 km along the railway track between Kondakal and Chinna Shankarpalli, forcing rail authorities to halt train operations for nearly 80 minutes.

The disruption affected eight trains, including passenger and goods services. Authorities registered cases under Sections 147 (trespassing) and 153 (obstructing train movement) of the Railway Act.

According to police, Soni attacked officers when they attempted to detain her. Suspecting unstable behaviour, she was taken for a medical assessment in Chevella. Doctors confirmed she was not mentally sound and referred her to Erragadda for further treatment.

Initial findings revealed Soni had been estranged from her family, including her husband and parents, for some time. She had recently lost her job and was reportedly dealing with depression.

Originally from Lucknow, she had been residing in Puppalaguda, Hyderabad. Police have stated she will be questioned after she completes treatment.
