Konda Vishweshwar Reddy blames BRS for negligence in Chevella bus accident

Hyderabad: Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, MP from Chevella, blamed the BRS government’s negligence for the Chevella bus accident on the Hyderabad–Bijapur National Highway 163. The crash occurred near Mirzaguda early Sunday when an RTC bus hit a gravel tipper. Locals said a deep pothole caused the accident, which killed 21 people.

Speaking to reporters, Reddy said the highway dated back to the Nizam era. It was built for tongas and old cars, not heavy vehicles. He noted that the road remained narrow and full of sharp turns for decades. Vikarabad residents rely on this route as their only link to Hyderabad, he added.

Reddy said he had pressed for the road’s expansion when he served as MP. In 2017, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari approved this project along with ten other Telangana highways. He said the plan stalled because the BRS government ignored land acquisition.

MP says BRS ignored public safety, delayed road work

The MP accused BRS of acquiring land for other highways but neglecting Chevella. He said officials delayed work to protect their real estate interests. Later, they began land acquisition along a twisted path to avoid certain properties.

He added that environmental activists from Tamil Nadu filed cases to save hundreds of banyan trees along the road. “They were not locals,” Reddy said. “They cared about trees, not people’s lives.”

He said the government had promised to transplant the trees, but the activists refused to withdraw their case until recently. Only after that did the roadwork begin. Reddy blamed the BRS entirely for the tragedy. “For BRS, Rangareddy means real estate, not people,” he said.
