Hyderabad: Forest Minister Konda Surekha came out swinging on Friday, accusing BRS leaders of distorting her words through edited clips and social media propaganda. In a detailed statement, she insisted her controversial remarks in Warangal were aimed strictly at the previous BRS government and not at her current Cabinet colleagues.
“Yes, I said ministers in the past BRS regime took money for every file. That’s the truth. I stand by it,” she said. According to her, her speech was selectively clipped parts moved around, lines taken out of order to paint a false narrative and sow discord within the Congress government.
She alleged that the BRS had launched a targeted smear campaign using paid social media operatives. “They couldn’t handle the fact that our government is functioning efficiently. So they cooked up controversy,” she said.
Surekha clarified that her reference to corruption was solely about BRS-era ministers, and that any attempt to twist her words into commentary on current Congress ministers was baseless. “This is a conspiracy. Their editing is the mischief,” she said.
Calling herself a proud BC woman from a government school background, she slammed BRS leaders for attacking her language and upbringing. “I work 18 hours a day. I’m here to serve the people. Some in BRS can’t handle that,” she said.
She hit back hard at the BRS’s top brass, challenging them to answer why Kaleshwaram became a disaster, why Medigadda collapsed, and why Mission Bhagiratha became “Commission Bhagiratha”.
“If you have the guts, come to Warangal Chowrasta. Let’s debate,” she said, throwing down the gauntlet.
Surekha warned she wouldn’t tolerate any further slander. “Do it again, and I won’t let it go. Not one of you will be spared.”
